Dominica - The Nature Isle!

We are so lucky to have visited Roseau, Dominica! It is an incredible place in so many ways. Dominica is known as the Nature Isle for good reason. So far, we visited Middleham Falls, Titou Gorge and Trafalgar Falls. These sights included simply unbelievable scenery and experiences like swimming through a beautiful gorge to a waterfall and lounging in a hot pool under a hot waterfall??!!! This was my fave! The thing I miss most on the boat is the lack of a bathtub and this more than met the bill for me!

Our incredible guides, SeaCat Tours, particularly Octavius and his daughter Chelsea did an amazing job making us feel safe and showing us their island in an adventurous and engaging way and we highly recommend them if you ever get here!

Not only are the SeaCat team great tour guides but they really look out for their guests. We're staying on their mooring and they have adopted us as their own. One of our dear friends suffered a severe laceration and needed to go to the hospital. The SeaCat team showed up at the hospital within an hour and even visited her at her boat in the evening to make sure she was ok! They are some of the most kind, caring and authentic people you ever want to meet.

In addition to touring, we were able to enjoy some time with friends Sandy and Foster on Odyssey and new friends Beverley and Adam on Blu. We had both couples over for a delicious potluck!

Our welcome to Dominica rainbow! The only thing we didn't get to see was the pod of resident sperm whales. Maybe next time when we sail south...



Adam and I thoroughly enjoyed trekking through rivers, mud, scrambling over roots and rocks to get to the falls!


It's hard to show how challenging the hiking was but we definitely earned our steps this day!

UH OH! Is that white smoke coming from our engine?!

While sailing away from Fort de France, Martinique after carnival Adam noticed some white smoke coming from the port engine. Adam asked me to get "the book". We have Nigel Calder's book on engines that Adam gave me one year as a Hannukah present 😂 Since I'm half Adam's size, I'm the one who frequently maintains the engines so Adam seems to think I have some magic power over them. Unfortunately, neither of us knows much about engines. Adam always says they're his blind spot. I dutifully grabbed my book, looked up white smoke and learned that it has something to do with either water or fuel. We were able to slow the engine down and the white smoke went away which we found reassuring. As a matter of fact, we had actually seen the white smoke for a brief period of time sometime the week before, but since it went away, we both ignored it and went on with our sail - obviously not a good strategy, but seems to work even better when you have an ostrich partner in

Another amazing day on Dominica!

We reached out to SeaCat to plan another day of touring from Roseau, Dominica. We told him we wanted to do another hike but something a little less challenging.  We were still a little sore from the intense day of hiking waterfalls that we did the first day we hiked with SeaCat. We told him we'd also like a massage and to hang out at the thermal hot springs that the area is known for. Well, SeaCat delivered again! What a special day! See pics below for more info... As we drove higher and higher, we experienced a lovely drop in temperature, perfect to get us in the mood to hike! The views from this hike were just spectacular! This hike was called Freshwater Lake and we were climbing on a ridge sandwiched between views of the Atlantic and views of the freshwater lake below. The trail was beautifully maintained with an incredible number of log steps built into the hillside.
